SECTION27 is a public interest law centre that seeks to influence, develop and use the law to protect, promote and advance human rights. Our name is drawn from the section in the South African Constitution which enshrines everyone's right to health care, food, water and social security.
SECTION27 has just finalised its submission to the Department of Basic Education on the Draft Regulations Relating to Minimum Uniform Norms and Standards for Public School Infrastructure. Attached is a copy of our submission.

On 8 March 2013, following a series of discussions between SECTION27, the National Association of School Governing Bodies (NASGB), the Department of Basic Education (DBE) and the Limpopo Department of Education, the DBE has provided SECTION27 with a plan to address the urgent need for adequate and sufficient sanitation facilities in Limpopo Schools.
SECTION27 welcomes the promulgation of section 6 of the Competition Amendment Act 1 of 2009 (“Amendment Act”) by proclamation published in the Government Gazette on Friday, 8 February 2013. The proclamation brings into force the provisions related to a market inquiry, which will come into force on 1 April 2013.
