SECTION27 is a public interest law centre that seeks to influence, develop and use the law to protect, promote and advance human rights. Our name is drawn from the section in the South African Constitution which enshrines everyone's right to health care, food, water and social security.
Every month, Lusikisiki Village Clinic serves up to 8,500 people in the OR Tambo District of the Eastern Cape. At the beginning of 2013, the Eastern Cape Department of Health moved the clinic from a building in central Lusikisiki to a plot of dirt on the outskirts of town.
On 30 April 2013 the South African Human Rights Commission (SAHRC) published an interim report of its investigation into the delivery of learner teacher support materials (LTSM), including textbooks and workbooks, across South Africa. SECTION27 made its submission to the SAHRC on 14 May 2013.
