Professor Marius Pieterse serves as an ex-officio member of the SECTION27 board, representing the School of Law at the University of the Witwatersrand, where he teaches constitutional law and human rights law. His research focuses on the judicial interpretation and enforcement of socio-economic rights, the content and implications of the right to health, and rights-based urban governance. He is the author of Can Rights Cure? The Impact of Human Rights Litigation on South Africa’s Health System (PULP, 2014) and has published a range of scholarly articles on human rights, constitutional law and urban governance, both nationally and internationally. Pieterse holds a B2 rating from the National Research Foundation and is the joint global coordinator of the International Research Group on Law and Urban Space (IRGLUS).
