This week most of our diary is orientated around working with the SANAC Structures. This is arguably the most important work to be done, in order to ensure that are open channels of communication for people on the ground to be able to share their experiences of the Health System, while living with HIV. We hope to see this reflected in Wednesday’s budget speech.

 

Monday 20 February

SECTION27 Attorney Sasha Stevenson is attending the Rural Health Advocacy Project’s board meeting.

The Free State Health Crisis Action Coalition are gathering in Bloemfontein today. This is the first coalition meeting since it was established in May last year. Over 13 partners will meet today to take the temperature of the province’s health system and move the campaign forward for 2017.

Field Researcher Sifiso Nkala is attending an LGBTI Capacity building workshop with Anova. Anova is an NGO that does work around LGBTI within the Gert Sibande Districict. They pilot many of the key population prevention programmes.

Tuesday 21 February

Executive Director of SECTION27, Mark Heywood is attending a dialogue hosted by the Evangelical alliance of South Africa (TEASA) Mark will give a talk about the role and place of faith in civil society actions for justice’. The dialogue will start at 6pm and will be held ULP House, in Midrand.

Debates about the budget should be based on the real human rights issues that people across the country are facing. The Constitution requires that the budget responds to these issues.SECTION27 in the Human Rights Budget Speech hosted by SPII at the SA Human Rights Commission. The speech available on our website.

Vovo Gonyela will be attending SANAC Civil Society Forum meeting. This will be the first of its kind in 2017 in preparation for the elections of the SANAC SCF leadership which has brought so much controversy in relation to accountability, transparency, quality of leadership and questions around governance in taking forward the NSP 2017 – 2022.

Wednesday 22 February

Patrick Mdletshe is attending a SANAC Civil society meeting. At this meeting, new leaders of the civil society secretariat will be elected. This meeting will be held at the Kopanong conference centre in Benoni.

Thursday 23 February

Sifiso Nkala is attending a Civil Society Organisation (CSO) meeting in the Mkhondo Municipality in Gert Sibande. The meeting convened by the Mpumalanga provincial Aids Council will seek to ensure that members of the AIDS councils are aware of the issues on the ground, and that they are committed to doing work that will see a decrease in the levels of HIV/Aids.

Vovo Gonyela will be attending SA Aids conference Marathon Meeting in Pretoria. She will be attending this meeting as a member of the Scientific Programme Committee.

Friday 24th February

Patrick Mdletshe will attend a GIZ Funding meeting at which the organisation will give feedback on its investment strategy in relation to working with Civil Society in South Africa.

Vovo  Gonyela, Section 27 NSP Review Advocacy Officer will be speaking at Wits School of Public Health International Conference titled addressing health inequities: Whose responsibility? She will be engaging conference attendees on Patients voice and the Role of Social Movements in Addressing Social Determinants of Health.

The Education and Know Your Constitution teams will be conducting a training session on sexual violence workshops with the Leratong Child Rescue Advisory Centre in Katlehong.
