SECTION27 is a non-profit organisation that uses public interest law and advocacy to protect, promote and advance human rights and social justice. Our activities include litigation, research, and advocacy to advance and promote the rule of law. We focus on protecting everyone’s right of access to health care services, basic education, and sufficient food, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

SECTION27 seeks to appoint a Communications Officer- Content Producer to translate our campaign strategies into compelling, brand-aligned content, including driving the production process of multimedia content for dissemination on various platforms. The position is based in Johannesburg.

JOB SPECIFICATION

 Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or a related field.
  • 1 year+ of social media experience including planning and managing content

Experience

  • 1 year+ related working experience
  • Experience in packaging and presenting information in an accessible and user-friendly style
  • Experience in a wide range of social media platforms
  • Experience with content creation software such as InDesign, Photoshop, etc.
  • Experience with Content Management Systems e.g., WordPress

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent writing, copywriting and editing skills suitable for each platform
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • Understanding of/proven expertise in social media marketing and social media platforms and strategy
  • Strategic thinking for developing effective marketing campaigns
  • Ability to monitor multiple social media platforms concurrently
  • Tech-savvy for creating visuals and other products for campaigns
  • Knowledge and understanding of search engine optimisation
  • Strong communication and people skills for articulating ideas

Duties and Responsibilities

 Social media

  • Manage and monitor S27’s online presence including websites, social media platforms and expanding S27’s presence on platforms such as TikTok and other appropriate forums
  • Manage the day-to-day handling of all social media channels such as Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Twitter etc.
  • Adapt content to suit different channels and audiences
  • Create captivating content for S27’s social media sites including writing op-eds, articles, posts and multimedia content to increase engagement and promote campaigns
  • Manage and facilitate social media communities by responding to social media posts and developing discussions
  • Develop social media strategies with the aim of increasing brand awareness, engagement and support campaigns
  • Ensuring that S27 campaigns and advocacy work is effectively communicated externally
  • Create and/or coordinate original and engaging multimedia content across multiple social platforms
  • Develop and implement digital marketing strategies includes: creating social media friendly videos, infographics, podcasts, features, photo essays and other content for S27 social media channels
  • Generate innovative ideas for promoting S27 messages and issues in online platforms
  • Be familiar with various tools to generate creative assets
  • Connect and foster relationships with super connector individuals, companies, and organizations
  • Develop crowdsourcing solutions for key S27 social media activities
  • Engage with our social media followers, including timely responses to online queries
  • Monitor, analyse and report on performance on social media platforms using analytical tools such as Google Analytics and Facebook Insights
  • Identify consumer trends to help with planning social media campaigns
  • Prepare monthly reports on social media marketing efforts
  • Recommend adjustments to the social media marketing strategy to obtain optimal results
  • Liaise with the communications team and resource centres in partner organisations
  • Work with S27 teams to convert materials into accessible and user-friendly formats
  • Provide training, advice, and support to S27 staff about social media
  • Stay up to date on best practices and emerging trends in social media

Website maintenance

  • Regular updating of content, ensuring all-round consistency in terms of style, tone, graphics, etc.
  • Produce well-researched content and pitching new story ideas that further S27 objectives
  • Proofread and edit articles before publishing
  • Create, produce and manage high-quality content
  • Identify and upload S27 materials to be posted online (such as submissions, court papers and press releases.)
  • Regular assessment of the website to ensure that it remains user-friendly
  • Ensure the content is up-to-date and adheres to SEO guidelines
  • Comply with copyright and privacy regulations and controls
  • Track and analyse website traffic to gauge prominence and produce monthly and ad hoc reports
  • Keep abreast of new trends in web technology
  • Liaise with the website developers on an ongoing basis

 Public Image of the organisation

  • Publicise and promote awareness of S27’s work
  • Seek innovative solutions to increase the organisation’s brand
  • Develop content for dissemination on our online channels
  • Coordinate, draft and/or distribute press releases and other publications
  • Collect, manage and disseminate information and knowledge including S27 materials (publications and submissions) to relevant stakeholders
  • Support the organisation’s collaboration in media and other channels

General

  • Attend and participate in monthly staff meetings, team meetings, as well as other meetings that relate to the work of S27.
