Shaeera Kalla is a filmmaker, activist and scholar. She has been selected as one of 18 emerging filmmakers for the Atelier Ludwigsburg-Paris programme 2023/24. Shaeera served as the President of the Wits Student Representative Council (SRC) and was one of the many students at the forefront of the #FeesMustFall protests in 2015/16 for free, decolonised and quality higher education. She was recognised in 2016 as one of the Top 200 Young South Africans by the Mail & Guardian. She holds an MSc in African Studies from Oxford University, and a Bachelor of Commerce in Philosophy, Politics and Economcis and BA Honours from the University of the Witwatersrand. She has also been involved in the #PayTheGrants campaign for social protection and Universal Basic Incomes.
