Demichelle Petherbridge

Senior Attorney

I hail from Boksburg and joined SECTION27 in November 2020 as an attorney in the Education Rights Programme. My career in social justice stems largely from my interest in how the law develops and the ways we can use it as a transformative tool for change.

There is still much work to be done on developing the right to basic education in our country, and I really enjoy being continually challenged to think more creatively about the law, and its potential to change basic education delivery in our country.

Before joining Section27, I studied at Stellenbosch University where I completed my BComm (law) and postgraduate LLB and later obtained a doctorate in the area of international law and socio-economic rights. I also have previous professional experience as an attorney and researcher in education law.

Working in this sector is truly a privilege, and I’m thrilled to be part of such an amazing organisation.
