Faatima Laher

Faatima is a Legal Researcher at SECTION27.
She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Law and Media studies, as well as an LLB, both from Wits University. During her undergraduate studies, she served as the Legal, Constitutional and Policy Officer on the Student Representative Council (SRC), Treasurer of the Law Students Council (LSC) and panel member at the Wits Gender Equity office.
In 2021, she was selected for the ASRI Fellowship and later that year began her internship at SECTION27. She completed her articles in 2024, gaining experience in both the health and education programs. Some of the cases that she has had the opportunity to work on are the Life Esidimeni Inquest, Blind SA v President of South Africa and SECTION27 v MEC for Health Gauteng. Some of her areas of work include mental health, the right to food, school overcrowding, school admissions, learner literacy, migrant health and climate justice.
