Marcus Low
Spotlight Editor
I’ve been part of Spotlight’s editorial team since the publication’s launch in 2016. Spotlight does in-depth public interest health journalism with a focus on HIV, TB, COVID-19 and the healthcare system in South Africa. While Spotlight is published by SECTION27 and its fulltime employees are employed by SECTION27,
Spotlight is editorially independent and a member of the South African Press Council. Spotlight is a unique and interesting journalism start-up to be a part of and the opportunities it provides for doing socially useful work is something I’m very grateful for.
I was previously the head of policy, research and communication at the Treatment Action Campaign – and before that worked as a health journalist at Media24. After hours I am working on a PhD in computational epidemiology at the University of Cape Town. I am the author of the novel asylum (Pan MacMillan 2017)
