Thato Gaffane

Attorney

Thato joined SECTION27 in 2025 and is an attorney in the Education Rights Programme.

They hold a LLB from the University of South Africa and an LLM in Human Rights Law from the University of Johannesburg. Previously, Thato practised at Lawyers for Human Rights, litigating on issues related to refugee and migrant rights, labour, gender justice, penal reform, and environmental and climate justice, as well as business and human rights.

They are passionate about using the law to advance socio-economic rights, environmental and climate justice, and equality.
