SECTION27 invites you to a press briefing to hear firsthand accounts of the textbook crisis in Limpopo.
This follows the further application brought by SECTION27, Hanyani Thomo Secondary School and Tondani Lydia Masiphephethu, represented by the Centre for Applied Legal Studies, to the North Gauteng High Court on 10 September 2012. The application relates to the failure by the Department of Basic Education to deliver textbooks to all Limpopo schools for 2012 and to develop an effective catch-up plan for Grade 10 learners.
Speakers include:
- Solly Tshitangano, the former acting Chief Financial Officer in the Limpopo Department of Education who played a crucial role in uncovering tender irregularities in the appointment of EduSolutions and was later dismissed for exposing these irregularities.
- Tondani Lydia Masiphephethu, a parent of two learners and the Chairperson of the School Governing Body at Lutandale Primary School (third applicant in the case).
- Solanga Milambo, a community member and parent from Giyani who has been visiting schools in Limpopo.
