SECTION27 CALLS FOR DEPARTMENT OF BASIC EDUCATION (DBE) TO WITHDRAW STATEMENT BY SPOKESPERSON LESUFI
According to news reports DBE spokesperson Panyaza Lesufi has stated that SECTION27’s return to court over the Limpopo textbooks crisis “is a fundraising tool where people believe that for them to get resources, they need to attack government.” He has also allegedly stated that “It is completely unfair. It is an abuse of the court system of the country.”
SECTION27 calls on the Minister of Basic Education to order that Lesufi withdraw and apologize for this unfortunate outburst.
Instead, Lesufi should concentrate on ensuring that the DBE’s answering affidavit is filed on time today. That is the most appropriate place to dispute the evidence we have provided of the continued unlawful failure to provide children in Limpopo with an adequate basic education. Lesufi should also ensure that the DBE’s lawyers reply to papers that have been prepared for the Labour Court on behalf of dismissed whistle-blower, Solly Tshitangano.
