Last week SECTION27, TAC and COSATU hosted a historic joint civil-society and labour conference with over 300 participants from 56 civil society organisations.

The two-day meeting consisted of speeches, by COSATU President Sidumo Dlamini and General Secretary Zwelinzima Vavi as well as SECTION27 Executive Director, Mark Heywood and Professor Adam Habib, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Johannesburg, and three commissions on health and education, constructing a social justice charter, and COSATU’s draft economic Growth Path document.  The meeting was an overall success, with ground-breaking strategising between unions and civil society. The resolutions taken on health and education were particularly important.
