12 August 2025, Johannesburg – SECTION27 welcomes the appointment of Nyeleti Magadze as Chair of the SECTION27 Board, effective 1 August 2025. This appointment follows the retirement of Alice Brown, who served on the SECTION27 Board for 13 years, including six years as Chair.
Nyeleti joined the SECTION27 Board in 2023 and has extensive experience in government, business, professional bodies, and civil society. She has served as a Legal Advisor and Group Company Secretary for Spescom Limited and the Airports Company South Africa (ACSA), Governance Executive for the Hollard Group, Director of Strategy at Business Leadership South Africa (BLSA) and as the Head of Programmes at Constitution Hill Trust. She currently works as a consultant for the GIBS Anti-Corruption Coalition (an initiative of the Centre for Business Ethics) and The Human Bridge Movement which works on racial healing in South Africa. She is also the Chairperson of Allan and Gill Gray Philanthropy South Africa and is a Non-Executive Director of the Abacus Group.
Nyeleti is an admitted attorney with a B.Proc from the University of Limpopo. She also holds a Higher Diploma in Tax Law from the University of Johannesburg and completed the Senior Executive Programme – Africa through the Gordon Institute of Business Science and Harvard Business School.
Confirming Nyeleti’s new appointment, SECTION27 Executive Director, Sasha Stevenson said: “We are thrilled that Nyeleti will be chairing the SECTION27 Board. As a lawyer with extensive corporate governance experience, Nyeleti is such an asset to the organisation and we are honoured to have her serve as our Chair.”
As we welcome Nyeleti to her new role, we also recognise the years of dedicated service of outgoing Board Chair Alice Brown. Alice has made an extraordinary contribution to SECTION27 since its inception. Her deep expertise in social justice philanthropy, civil rights litigation, and public interest advocacy has been invaluable to the organisation over the years, and we are grateful for her unwavering support.
