Insurance products for people living with HIV

Many people living with HIV continue to face unfair discrimination in various aspects of their lives. SECTION27 often receives reports from people who are denied access to insurance products solely on the basis that they are HIV positive, or are offered cover at what appear to be highly inflated prices.
SECTION27 recently met with representatives of the Association for Savings and Investment South Africa (ASISA) to raise concerns we have regarding the current approaches and practices of the insurance industry in relation to HIV.

Criminal Law (Sexual Offences and Related Matters) Amendment Bill

The National Working Group on the Sexual Offences Bill made a submission on 30 October 2005. This submission begins by explaining why violence against women is an obstacle to the socio-economic development of South Africa. It then provides statistics on the extent of the problem before setting out the policies and laws which have been developed to address violence against women, or gender-based violence.

Measures to limit the spread of Covid-19.

In light of the announcement by President Ramaphosa on Sunday 15 March 2020 that Covid-19 has been declared a national disaster, we have decided to take the following measures to protect our staff and limit the spread of the CoVid-19 virus.

Our offices will be closed and our staff will work remotely until 31 March 2020.

Meetings will be conducted via electronic means.

Our advice desk will only conduct telephonic consultations.
