IMALI YETHU, a coalition of civil society organisations working with the National Treasury to make budget information more accessible and user-friendly, invites members of the public to enter a competition to name an online budget data portal under development.

The project intends to provide budget data in format that is useful to an ordinary citizen and to present an overview of how public resources are generated and used.

The winner of the competition will be invited to attend the live Budget Speech in February 2018. The winner will also be mentioned or featured as a character in an animated video about the online budget data portal.

Entries should convey an ethos of openness and transparency. Names that bear strong elements of South African or African heritage are encouraged, as is creative flair. Competition submissions may be made in any of the eleven official South African languages. The name needs to be short enough to be used as the name of a website. Entries close at 11:00 on Monday, 15 January 2018.

SECTION27 is a member of the IMALI YETHU coalition.
