Monday 09 April

SECTION27 staff attended the Memorial for Winnie Madikizela Mandela arranged by the Nelson Mandela Foundation at Constitution Hill on Monday 09 April 2018. It was a moving gathering at which Graca Machel challenged South Africans to honour Mama Winnie by doing something to make South Africa a better country.  Anglican Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana urged us all to become active citizens, and Nelson Mandela Foundation CEO Sello Hatang reminded us that Winnie was a young bride who “married the struggle” when she married Madiba and fought for the freedom of our nation.

Tuesday 10 April

Researcher and AVAC fellow, Thuthukile Mbatha will be attending the AVAC Fellows workshop as she reaches the culmination of her one year advocacy project. The Fellows Workshop is an opportunity to close out and celebrate the (outgoing) 2017 Fellows and orient the (new) 2018 Fellows and Supervisors. The Workshop will take place on 10 -12 April 2018, at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Rosebank.

Wednesday 11 April

Education attorney Sheniece Linderboom will attend a meeting of stakeholders in education convened by the South African Human Rights Commission to discuss the crisis in relation to school infrastructure. The meeting, which takes place at the SAHRC Head Office, 33 Hoofd Street, Braampark Forum III, Braamfontein from 14:00 to 16:00, aims to encourage stakeholders to engage around the possibility of collaboration in addressing the situation going forward.

Thursday 12 April

National Strategic Plan Advocacy Officer, Vuyokazi Gonyela and Community Mobiliser, Patrick Mdletshe will travel to the North West on a two day fact finding mission following reports of a medicine stock out as a result of a strike at a medicine depot in the province.  They will meet with the union, visit the six facilities that have reported shortages and establish whether the issue is with the national or provincial department.

Friday 13 April

Head of Education, Faranaaz Veriava will attend a board of trustees meeting at the Equal Education Law Centre along with other NGO’s.
