MEDIA ADVISORY: SECTION27, CASAC TO HOST LECTURE SERIES ON HOW THE CONSTITUTION CAN ADVANCE DEMOCRATIC PRACTICES AND PROMOTE SOCIO-ECONOMIC PROGRESS
17 February 2022, Johannesburg—Members of the media are invited to join a series of virtual engagements on constitutionalism and democracy from 28 February until 1 March.
The event hosted by SECTION27 and the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution (CASAC) in partnership with Constitution Hill, features over 30 intergenerational speakers from South Africa and other parts of the world in a civic education series. It brings together social movements, young leaders, and civil society organisations to explore ways to strengthen our constitutional democracy and defend the rule of law.
The persistence of poverty and deepening inequality, decades of corruption, the July 2021 unrest occurred during unprecedented times has exposed the fragility of South Africa’s democracy and the need for substantive transformation and redress of inequalities and the need to recommit to common values.
