Our week ahead 24 – 28 October 2016

^{This week, SECTION27 remembers the life Esidimeni 37. These are patients who lost their lives in the past few months after they were moved to various NGO’s from Life Esidimeni. This is a tragedy that no family or person should ever have to deal with and we hope that authorities will act to prevent this from ever happening again.} 

Monday 24 October

Executive Director Mark Heywood is speaking at the 2^nd National Pharmacy Conference at the ICC in KZN. He was invited to speak by the SA Pharmacy Council (SAPC) to present on: Patient rights and the constitution. The conference which started on Friday 21 October concludes on Monday 24 October 2016.

SLSJ Fellow Ntombi Maphosa and legal researcher Thuthukile Mbatha are in KZN this week hosting a workshop for Community Health Care Workers on the new “ward-based outreach teams” policy. The workshop will be attended by CHW’s from all over KZN.

Community Mobiliser Sifiso Nkala will host National Health Insurance (NHI) workshops with the Treatment Action Campaign in Mpumalanga. The workshops which will be hosted at various TAC branches to discuss the NHI policy as well as the monitoring of Primary Health Care centers within the district.

Tuesday 25 October

Community mobiliser Solanga Milambo will attend the Provincial World AIDS DAY (WAD) prepatory meeting in the Mopani District in Limpopo, hosted by the Limpopo Provincial Aids Council. This will lead up to a final World AIDS Day event, to be hosted in the Mopani district.

Thursday 26 October

SECTION27 is supporting the Life Esidimeni family committee as they hold a prayer vigil in memory of all the family members who have passed as well show solidarity for the patients that are still in various NGO’s. The Vigil will be held outside the Gauteng Department of Health at 10:30am.

Saturday 29 October

Members of the education team at SECTION27 will be attending Basic Education for All’s Waterberg District Annual General Meeting. This is an opportunity to consult with BEFA members outside of the executive committee regarding cases where BEFA is SECTION27’s client. The meeting will include an election process for the district representatives for the next two years.
