As part of the SECTION27 Gender Based Violence campaign #FAILEDBYSYSTEMS, Researcher Thuthukile Mbatha published an article on the violence faced by trans sex workers in the Daily Maverick

7 August – 8 August

The SECTION27 communications and health teams head to the Eastern Cape to investigate reports of health systems collapses in the Joe Gqabi District Municipality. They will be in Buffalo City Metro (East London, Hamburg and surroundings) and Chris Hani District (Queenstown). They will be following up on emergency medical services in the province.

Section27 will be represented by Mark Heywood and Anso Thom in the National Week of no Confidence marches and demonstrations organised by the Future South Africa Coalition taking place in Cape Town and Johannesburg.

9 August

SECTION27 Field Researcher Patrick Mdletshe will be joining fellow comrades and community organisations outside Joburg City Hall in supporting the motion of no confidence against president Jacob Zuma.

SECTION27 Advocacy officer Vuyokazi Gonyela will be participating in a March in Chris Hani district (Queenstown) that will be led by the Faith Based Sector, Women and Children based organisations and other broader civil society organisations. The march is directed at the District Executive Mayor where amongst other demands is a specific demand for a plan and political commitment to address violence against women and children.

11 August – 12 August

SECTION27 Field Researcher Patrick Mdletshe will be attending the TAC Western Cape Congress. which will be held in Khayelitsha over two days. The TAC will be deliberating on issues of organisational policy and politics.
