Covid-19 Vaccine Q&A – vaccine literacy cards

Here we answer some frequently asked questions about the Covid-19 Vaccine.

How do vaccines work, and why do we use them? What is the immune system and what do vaccines have to do with it? What is herd or population immunity? How do we know the Covid-19 vaccines are safe? When will the public be able to access these vaccines in South Africa? These questions – and more – answered in graphics below.

Vaccines are safe and prevent you from getting sick. Vaccines are a human right. Everyone in South Africa will be entitled to a vaccine against Covid-19 when enough vaccines become available.

You can challenge misinformation, myths and vaccine hesitancy by sharing scientifically accurate information about vaccines. Share these cards with your networks, via social media or instant messaging platforms.

Just because vaccines are becoming available, it doesn’t mean that Covid-19 is over. We still need to wear masks, wash our hands regularly with soap and water, and keep social distancing – it will be many months before enough people are vaccinated.
