Week Ahead

Several SECTION27 staff members will be attending the regional COP18 consultation meeting in Johannesburg until Friday. This meeting allows civil society to mobilise, give input and shape the COP18 strategy.

WEEK AHEAD 5 – 9 February

The Proteas lost in spectacular fashion, the ANC top six have been having late night meetings with the President and the Springbok ruby coach got given the boot. This week promises to be another manic week in our beautiful, crazy country with a busy week ahead for SECTION27. Here are some of our highlights!

22 January 2018, Former Gauteng MEC for Health, Qedani Mahlangu began her long awaited testimony at the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings chaired by retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke.  The hearing was adjourned with the Judge asking Ms Mahlangu

Our Week Ahead 4-9 December

The Life Esidimeni arbitration continues this week at the Emoyeni Conference Centre in Johannesburg. Family members of surviving mental health care users as well as Professor Ames Dhai, an expert witness are expected to testify.

Our Week Ahead 20 – 24 November

Court proceedings in the matter of Rosina Komape vs The Department of Education and Others will continue this week in the Polokwane High Court. Taking the witness strand this week are Civil Engineer David Still, SECTION27 Budget Expert Daniel McLaren and our Executive Director Mark Heywood.

Our Week Ahead 6 – 10 November

The #Justice4Michael campaign continues in the build up to the upcoming litigation in the matter of Rosina Komape vs Minister of Basic Education. The matter involves the death of Michael Komape who fell into a pit toilet after it collapsed, and died a horrible death.

Our Week Ahead 9 – 13 October

Monday sees the commencement of the arbitration proceedings for the Life Esidimeni tragedy led by retired Deputy Chief Justice Dikgang Moseneke and designed to provide information, redress and closure to the affected mental health care users and their families. SECTION27 is representing 53 families.
